The Russian judge's score was thrown out! Ferrari wins!

Officiating by twitter.

It was the right call in the first place. They caved under social media pressure because of what the announcers said.

The avoidable contact rules cover forcing another car off track, even without contact. The author you linked covers that at the end of the article, but as he also says, decision is final.

I am so glad to see that reversal. There was no obvious contact.

It was a racing incident. Pier couldn't really adjust his line and by all accounts Winkelhock should have seen this conclusion coming. It was like when Hulkenburg was penalised after colliding with Lewis when the two were fighting each in the braking zone during Brazil 2012.

I'm not sure I sway either way on if the call was correct to call. I understand both sides; on one hand he forced him off the track, on the other you can say that's just a racing incident and they both knew what was going to happen.

Either way, I thought the initial penalty was final, and now it isn't? I think they are caving in too easily.

I sense the presence of the ghost of Jean-Marie Balestre.

It wasn't officiating by twitter like NASCAR's adding of Jeff Gordon to the chase. The Kink is high speed and fairly tight; really only one solid racing line through there. When you decide to go balls out and try to make the pass on the outside of a narrow corner like the Audi did, shit happens.

IMSA really needs to look at its rules and its officiating. If they didn't penalize Ryan Briscoe for his incident with Guy Cosmo last season, this should have been an easy call to make.
